HOW FRAUDSTERS TRY TO LEGITIMIZE THEIR ACTIONS

Fraudsters are not exactly the most truthful people on the planet. They lie. Without doing so they would not make any money at all. Guaranteeing high amount of returns with a small risk or no risk at all and promoting a company or product that does not even exist are all lies on the part of the fraudster.

Investors are advised to carry out their own research into any claims made by people attracting investments because there are a lot of fraudsters who fabricate facts and make false claims. If something seems to be too good to be true, then more often than not it is false. On the other hand, some of the people committing frauds insert a little amount of truth in their stories. This is done to bring a certain extent of legality to their schemes. Investigating into these claims and asking hard hitting questions about the people selling the investment and the investment itself can considerably reduce the chances of becoming a victim to fraud.

One of the tricks used by fraudsters is to assure people that that the investment they are offering is registered under the appropriate authority and agency. The agency's telephone numbers are provided and invitations are sent for the verification of the authenticity of their claims. If in case the agency does in fact exist, the contact information provided is false, and instead of reaching a government official, you end up talking to the fraudsters, who will of course verify everything.

Another method used to swindle investors involves misusing the regulator's seal. The seal or logo of the regulator is copied from the website, or a new false one is made for a company that does not exist. To make the offer seem legal, these are then used on any documents that are sent to the victim, and also on the web pages.

There are various ways to protect yourself from people like these. Some of them are as follows:

•  Deal with genuine regulators

•  Do not fall for fancy and impressive seals and letterheads

•  Carry out investigations on the broker and the firm
